Social media marketing has become an important component of most advertising campaigns. At least 63% of millennials say they rely on social media to learn about new brands or keep up with brands they already know about. Social media marketing costs businesses about $8.3 billion each year. More and more people are getting their information from mobile devices rather than on laptops or desktop computers. Many companies remain intimidated by social media but this does not have to be the case. You do not have to hire a specialized social media marketing company to grow your business and create your unique brand.

Here are some tips from social media marketing company experts:
Engage your followers and friends. One of the best things about social media is the interactivity it provides. Ask your audience questions. Listen to their responses. If you sell certain products and you think they are great, ask what your customers think. If you have a website and people can order goods and services but are not selling as much as you think you should, ask your visitors what they think. Maybe your site is not as easy to use as you think.

Respond to customer questions, complaints and suggestions. If you have a customer service Twitter feed, have someone staffing it. This does not have to be 24 hours a day and seven days a week but if you offer that service and do not respond, you will regret it. If a customer complains about you on social media, their comments can be viewed by a lot more people than just their followers and friends. On the flip side of that, you look responsive and show you care about your customers when you do respond. Offer tips or hints that pertain to your business. If you have a restaurant, recipes, coupons or other suggestions may interest your customers.

Provide information that is useful and current. Sure you want to get messages out about your products and services but if you would like to be considered to be an expert or a resource for your clients and customers, you need to provide information or ideas that they can use.

Reward your return visitors. This can be with a coupon or with a shout out. Maybe if people retweet you or like you on Facebook, they get a discount. Send out specials via Twitter to encourage people to follow your feed and visit your various social media channels.

Use email marketing. You may notice that brands like Coca Cola run a lot of ads. This is because the saying, “Out of sight, out of mind” is all too true. Send your core customers and supporters regular updates on your business. This is not to say you have carte blanche to send them spam but reminding people who you are and what you do is never a bad  idea and will help you with your branding.

Social media is a scary thing to a lot of people but it really should not be. You do not need to hire a social media marketing company to get the most of these new channels to communicate with new and existing customers and grow your business.
